FAQ

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions. We will keep updating this page as needed.

What do you mean by a non-profit think tank?

Polymath Research is a think tank that concentrates on developmental theory research, devoting itself to the role of providing the information needed to build environments, much as DNA does within a cell. Each project we propose is carried forward by co-running it with the organization best suited to it. We place great importance on a cycle in which the discoveries and insights gained from that practical research are fed back into the theory and used to revise it. Because developmental theory research is not pursued for profit, we operate as a voluntary, unincorporated non-profit organization.

How can I get involved as a staff member?

We are not currently recruiting for any positions other than researchers. We welcome research partners from anywhere in the world at any time to co-author essays, books, and papers with us, but these collaborations are unpaid.

If you would like to join us in our research as a researcher, please first confirm that you meet the requirements below, then contact us through the contact form, including the URL of a page that shows your background or portfolio. We will review it and get back to you.

Researcher requirements: three or more doctorates in fields of natural science relevant to Polymath Research’s developmental theory research, such as physics, paleontology, embryology, ecology, sociology, mechanical engineering, or computer science (AI/artificial life), or equivalent scholarship.
* Example: physics + mathematical sciences (AI-related) + Montessori developmental theory → OK

Is an alternative school the same as a free school?

“Alternative” means “something new that takes the place of the mainstream approach,” and an “alternative school” means “a school that offers children a new option.” By definition, this includes free schools (the Japanese term for non-accredited schools that serve children who do not attend regular school).

→ We have launched the “Polymath School of Morioka,” which offers an educational program based on Montessori education that makes the most of Iwate’s natural environment and local culture.

How much is the school’s tuition?

The details have not yet been decided, but in the initial stage we expect tuition to be on a par with private elementary schools in Iwate Prefecture.
To ease the financial burden of tuition, we are also aiming to be designated as a “school for diversified learning” (a special school for children who do not attend school). *Added 2024/10/16: For a combination of reasons, we will not actively pursue accreditation as an officially recognized school under Article 1 of the School Education Act.

→ We have launched the “Polymath School of Morioka,” with free tuition (necessary expenses charged at cost).
