Opening the Polymath School of Morioka
On April 1, 2025, we will open the “Polymath School of Morioka.” Developing Polymath Research’s own research into developmental theory into the construction and practice of an educational theory, it will launch as an alternative school that aims to be “the most intellectual school on Earth,” as a completely new model.
Our goal had been to found an alternative school for the Elementary program of Montessori education (the equivalent of elementary school) as an educational environment for ages 6–12, but in addition to the Elementary program for ages 6–12, the Polymath School will also have a Primary program for ages 3–6. We place the highest importance on “being as intellectual as possible” as the environment children truly need, and decided to try creating an environment optimized for that alone1. For this reason, the model does away with every constraint other than the minimum environmental constraints needed for “being intellectual.”
Our first enrollment will be five children for the Primary program (ages 3–6) and five children for the Lower Elementary program (ages 6–9). For details, please see the official page.
As soon as our resources allow, we plan to add an Infancy program for ages 0–3 and a Secondary program for ages 12–18. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or inquiries.

Children are spiritually starving. The mission of educational institutions should be “to educate children and make them intellectual,” yet they are increasingly failing to fulfill this essential function. In early childhood and primary education, nurturing children’s minds comes second, and there is a growing tendency, in response to the demands of a busy society, to regard school as good enough if it is simply a place where children can pass a set number of hours safely while their parents work. If educational institutions abandon their role as “intellectual environments,” where will children’s minds find fulfillment? The Polymath School is a school conceived as a social experiment for averting a crisis that threatens the survival of civilization. Everything is inclusive; it embraces everything. ↩
